The project was designed with the intent to create a hybrid product that combines the typical functions of a speaker and, at the same time, those of a home lighting furniture. The goal was to create an interactive and hybrid product able to become the protagonist of the home environment.
The project was designed with the intent to create a hybrid product that combines the typical functions of a speaker and, at the same time, those of a home lighting furniture.
The user needs a product that is aesthetically compatible
with the home environment,
an object with a high-tech and minimalist style.
The product must be larger than the average home assistant,
to obtain a better sound quality and a visual effect of greater impact but of such dimensions as to allow an easy placement
even in environments not particularly spacious.
The grip on the surface should be such as to allow the user an easy grip to slide the mobile component along the tracks.
The metal bezel for volume adjustment should be prominent
to contribute both aesthetically and in terms of user affordance.
The customer is used to use the home assistants with voice only.
For this reason, very often voice assistants are small objects that people try to hide in the corners of the house in order to make them less noticeable.
Our goal is to make the voice assistant an integral part
if not a protagonist of the home environment.
To achieve this, we believe that it is not enough to increase its functionality and improve its aesthetic appearance but we believe that it is essential to establish a new kind of relationship between the user and the voice assistant,
a relationship that is not only vocal but also tactile, which will intrigue anyone who approaches the product.
To be a product that aims to be part of the furniture
it is necessary that it performs useful functions for the management of the home space.
For this reason we have established the design of a hybrid product that allows the management and entertainment inside the house both from the point of view of sound and light.
In fact our product will have to act as both a voice assistant and a light source for the room. The light source completes the object to make it a true piece of furniture.
Traditional smart speakers are becoming increasingly popular.
However, the products currently on the market have limitations:
 - they don't easily integrate into the environment in which they are placed,
 - they don't act as furniture items,
 - they only allow the users to use their voi ce to interact with them.
In addition their small size does not allow for high quality sound reproduction.
Our idea of 'interactive artificial intelligence'
aims to take a step forward in the conception of smart speakers
and, at the same time, to take a step back in the interaction relationship
between them and the user.
IRIS is a new 'smart furniture' that, proposing a physical interaction and lighting source, adds to technology fun and the chance to personalize the home environment.
